A pilot smart traffic system in Israel is cutting up to 40 seconds off the time it takes ambulances to arrive on the scene. It would be a game changer in Israel anytime, but especially in these days when paramedics are responding to a regular onslaught of terrorist violence, plus car crashes and medical emergencies.
Could it be a game changer in the United States?
This innovative project is pioneered by MAGEN DAVID ADOM in cooperation with the Israel Ministry of Transportation, Netivei Ayalon, an Israeli transportation engineering company, and Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv.
GPS tracking and connected traffic lights create a seamless “green wave” for emergency vehicles. When a MAGEN DAVID ADOM ambulance approaches an intersection, the system automatically identifies the vehicle and adjusts the traffic lights, streamlining a clear path without stops or delays.
So far, the pilot program has yielded a remarkable average reduction of 40 seconds in emergency response time—an improvement that can make the difference between life and death. Officials are considering expanding the initiative across Israel to further enhance emergency response capabilities.
Time is of the essence when responding to medical emergencies, and this pilot program is cutting precious seconds to treat the injured faster. This technology is not just about efficiency—it’s about saving lives in Israel.
This pioneering effort has potential application for emergency services worldwide, including in the United States.
